Are you ready to join paralympic star Ellie Simmonds to take on British Gas SwimBritain?
Today marks just one month to go until Paralympic champion Ellie Simmonds takes on British Gas SwimBritain at Coventry Sports Centre – and there is still time join her, so sign up today!
Supported by a host of big-name swimmers including Ellie, Becky Adlington and Michael Jamieson, SwimBritain is aiming to encourage 500,000 more people to swim regularly by 2015 with the first-ever team relay event.
Coventry Sports Centre kicks off the countrywide series of events on Saturday 31st August, and by taking part, all SwimBritain Coventry participants will have the opportunity to meet multi-medal-winning Ellie on the day.
What’s more, by signing up at swimbritain.co.uk/signup and using our Coventry31 code, you will receive a £20 discount on all team entries!
With four coaching sessions for all SwimBritain participants at a local pool included in the SwimBritain package, as well as motivation just when you need it from Britain’s swimming stars, and online training materials to support you along the way, SwimBritain has everything you need to reach your goal.
And three lucky ladies will even win the chance join the Paralympic star in the pool as part of Team Ellie through the exclusive competition in the Coventry Observer.
Ellie, who heads out to Montreal in August to defend her IPC World Championship titles, recently announced her change of training centre from Swansea to Loughborough, and SwimBritain Coventry will make her first swimming challenge back in her Midlands home.
With a SwimBritain challenge for teams of adults and for families, it will make a great day out to mark the end of the summer holidays and inspire people from across the Midlands to get back in the pool.
SwimBritain is a four-person relay for adults where each team member swims 250m four times around a specially-designed course in Coventry Sports Centre’s 50m pool. Little SwimBritain is designed for families with children in mind, in which team members use the same course, swimming half the distance (125m four times).
For all fitness levels, swimming is an ideal way to get in shape. Did you know you can burn over 200 calories in a gentle half-hour swim? Or that swimming a fast front crawl burns as many as an 8mph run? Swimming is a safe, low-impact exercise – with the water supporting your body, you can improve your aerobic fitness without putting any strain on your joints.
But the best thing about swimming is the relaxing, refreshing and liberating feeling of being in the water – the perfect way to wind down after a day at work or at school, or to spend the day during your holidays.
Spaces for British Gas SwimBritain are limited, so don’t miss this chance to get together with your family and friends, form a team and go the distance – SwimBritain will be on-hand to support you every step of the way.
