About

What’s involved?

SwimBritain was a series of fun team swimming relays that took place across Britain this September. It was all part of the British Gas/British Swimming partnership. Our goal was to inspire 500,000 people across Britain to swim more regularly – and get fit!

Anyone had the chance to take part - irrespective of fitness levels or swimming ability.  All individuals had to do was team up with family and friends or use our Facebook Team Builder App to find teammates (teams needed to be between two and four people), and find a SwimBritain event pool near you.

Entry to SwimBritain cost just £40 per team. Those who signed up received:

- Up to 3 instructor led training sessions at over 100 pools across the country
- Access to SwimBritain coaching materials and the SwimBritain Training App
- Entry to the SwimBritain event with the opportunity to swim alongside Britain's best known swimmers
- T-Shirt, Swimming Cap and Event Medal

How far did participants have to swim?

Each team member swims 1000m (4 legs of 250m).

SwimBritain 500

Each team member swims 500m (4 legs of 125m).

Relays were chip-timed so individuals could track how themselves and their team mates did in real time on the day. Team results were also be posted online after the event.

Swim with the stars

Participants also had the opportunity to meet and swim with some of Britain's top swimming stars at our events. SwimBritain 2014 was supported by some of the country’s best loved swimmers including Rebecca Adlington, Ellie Simmonds and Michael Jamieson.

David Walliams also swam and helped to spread the SwimBritain word. Click here to read more about our fantastic ambassadors.
