Claire Cashmore makes a splash for British Gas SwimBritain Sheffield!
Paralympic multi-medal winning swimmer Claire Cashmore joined hundreds of swimmers from across Yorkshire as they took part in British Gas SwimBritain Sheffield at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre on Saturday 6th September.
Now in its second year, British Gas SwimBritain encourages more people to swim regularly and sees the decorated stars of British Swimming plus celebrities including David Walliams joining the public in the water at 11 locations nationwide between 30th August and 4th October.
Participants compete as teams of four to complete relay challenges of 500m and 1,000m before receiving their hard-earned medals, with some swimmers using the event to raise funds for charity.
Claire, who has won five medals at three Paralympic Games in Athens, Beijing and London, said: “British Gas SwimBritain encourages more people to get in the pool. It’s a very important cause and one that I am very proud to support.
“Swimming is a brilliant hobby for people of any ages and any abilities. It’s healthy and fun. I was pleased to see so many young people in the pool at Sheffield – it’s great to know the next generation of Gold medal winners are taking part!
“You can register online for more SwimBritain events across the next month – and I’m delighted to be involved.”
Other familiar faces at SwimBritain Sheffield included Paralympics 2012 Gold medal winner Ollie Hynd, two-time European Gold Medal winning diver Sarah Barrow and Olympic platform diver Nick Robinson-Baker.
British Gas SwimBritain ambassador, Duncan Goodhew said, “It’s great to be a part of SwimBritain for a second year. The fantastic achievements of British swimmers have seen the popularity of swimming rise and I’m excited to be a part of this.
“British Gas SwimBritain is designed to inspire everyone to take the plunge and become more involved in swimming. Swimmers have the chance to swim with the stars and it’s great that SwimBritain is proving extremely popular, whether it’s people taking their first strokes or World Champions in the making.”
SwimBritain is open to swimmers of all abilities.
