At British Gas we are passionate about looking after our nation’s health and have been the principal partner of British Swimming since 2009. Since then, we’ve invested in everything from free swims, to supporting The British Gas GBR Swimming Teams. SwimBritain is our biggest swimming programme to date, and aims to put the fun back into fitness. Our goal is to inspire 500,000 people across Britain to swim more regularly – and get fit! Read more about how we’re supporting British Swimming.
It costs £30 to enter a team for SwimBritain before 31st May. After this time the team price will be £40. British Gas customers receive a 20% discount per team.

SwimBritain is for swimmers of all abilities. As long as you meet the minimum age requirements and can swim 125m or 250m without stopping, you can get involved. For less confident swimmers we suggest SwimBritain 500, where each team member completes four laps of 125m instead of four laps of 250m.

There are ten SwimBritain event pools (including the London Aquatics Centre at the Olympic Park in London, and the Commonwealth Games Pool in Glasgow). There’s also a SwimBritain open water relay in the Great Lake at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire. See where all the events are taking place on our locations page.

SwimBritain is for swimmers of all abilities and you can chose one of the following challenges:

- SwimBritain 1000: Each team member swims 1000m (4 legs of 250m)

- SwimBritain 500: Each team member swims 500m (4 legs of 125m).

SwimBritain is a series of swimming relay events launched in 2013 nationwide, designed to get Britain healthy. It’s for teams of between two and four people, and you can choose to swim with your friends, or join in with your family. Family teams must have at least one adult and children must be aged at least eight years old to take part in the pool events and 12 years old to take part in the open water swim. Your team captain will give you a team code which you will need to register.

No. The relays mean that each member completes four individual laps of either 250m or 125m alternately. This allows for your team members to cheer you on throughout your swim!
Children can take part, but we strongly recommend that there is at least one person over 16 in the team. However,  if the children are competent swimmers (club or similar standard) they can enter as a team of under 16s. If a team is entered on this basis, they must have a non-swimming team captain who is 16 and must accompany the team and be present throughout the event. Children must be 8 years old for the pool events and 12 years old for the open water swim, on the day of the event.
Registration closes two weeks prior to each event date
